The 180 metre Azamara Onward is the fourth to join the Azamara fleet following Damen’s extensive refit which included an equipment overhaul, complete refurbishment of all restaurants, cabins and suites, plus the addition of spa and terrace rooms and a new bar.

“Azamara selected Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam to complete the revitalisation of the Azamara Onward following an extensive comparative analysis of shipyards in Europe,” said head of marine operations, Nico Corbijn of Azamara.

The relatively small ‘Boutique’ style vessel is now complete, ready for the 2022 season. “With an estimated investment of approximately US$55 million, it was very important for us to identify a yard that could provide not only the technical expertise and know-how for this large project, but also offer logistical support for the outfitting companies and their teams that would be attending the ship daily,” he added.

The relatively small ‘Boutique’ style vessel is now complete, ready for the 2022 season. From mid-March through April 2022, the vessel was in the largest dry dock of Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam where the technical and maritime conversion was performed. Tanks for ballast water and fuel oil were restructured, to accommodate for bunkering larger volumes of marine grade diesel and the grey water tanks and tanktop were replaced.

Stabilisers both on starboard and port were overhauled and the shaft seals were replaced and thrusters were upgraded to allow for the use of environmentally acceptable lubricants. The tailshaft and the propeller seal were also replaced.
