DESMI launches mag-drive centrifugal pumps
The Denmark based manufacturer claims that the use of a magnetic coupling means that the pump chamber is completely sealed, which lowers the risk of methanol leakage to almost zero. DESMI notes that this is particularly important for methanol fuel supply systems owing to methanol’s toxic and highly flammable properties. The new DESMI mag-drive centrifugal pump is applicable for methanol fuel systems on newbuild dual-fuel ships, but can also be retrofitted to existing vessels.
The new pump is specifically designed for marine applications and has received class approvals and certifications from a number of classification societies, including ABS, BV, CCS, DNV, KR, and LR.
Built for compliance with the IGF Code, it is designed to meet the rigorous safety standards for ships using gases or other low-flashpoint fuels, and for installation in ATEX zone I if required. The supplier, DESMI, notes that a built-in temperature sensor detects overheating, while a leakage sensor can be specified.
