Dock No. 2 Dock completed at DACKS in China

The construction of the No. 2 Dock at Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (DACKS) in Dalian City, Liaoning Province, China, was completed earlier this year.

KHI outlined plans to coordinate purchasing and the distribution of building operations in order to boost the competitive position of its shipyard. Japanese media reports suggest that these plans could include the assembly of LNG carriers at DACKS, while retaining core component construction in Japan.

The completion of the second dock extends the shipyard’s capacity by 50%, and will permit more efficient construction of large-size merchant vessels. The No. 2 Dock is 550 metres long and 68 metres wide, and is equipped with four cranes including two 800-ton gantry cranes.

The shipyard’s 700-metre long No. 1 Dock is the longest in China. The shipyard currently has two large outfitting quays, one material quay, a 124,000 m2 sub-assembly workshop, two assembly workshops and a pipe workshop. The shipyard’s project plan envisaged the construction of a third large outfitting quay and a third assembly workshop.
