DSIC delivers energy-efficient VLCC
The CS Hunan Venture is 333 metres long, with a beam of 60 metres and an operational range of more than 26,000 nautical miles. It can pass through the Strait of Malacca with a designed draft of 20.5 m and a normal loading rate of two million barrels of crude oil.
The 307,000 dwt VLCC will be powered by a single MAN B&W 7G80ME-C high-efficiency engine fitted with the latest fuel saving technologies. The engine is equipped with an exhaust gas recirculation system to ensure Tier III compliance. The engine was built by MAN ES licensee Dalian Marine Engine in Dalian, China.
The vessel also featured a number of energy-saving devices, including a proprietary pre-swirl energy-saving device, as well as a large diameter, high efficiency propeller.
The vessel was classified by China Classification Society (CCS). Fan Qiang, Vice President of CCS said the CS Hunan Venture’s innovative design means its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) is more than 20pc below the baseline, which is close to best in class for VLCCs of that size. The vessel’s comprehensive performance indices reached world first class during surveying.
“The ship has excellent energy-saving and environmental protection performance, including a straight bow design profile as well as [the engine licensee’s] first 7G80ME-C9.5,” he said. “This is a new highly competitive ground-breaking generation of ship design for the newbuild market.”
The vessel meets the Harmonized Common Structural Rules (HCSR) and complies with the Inventory of Hazardous Materials according to both IMO Ship Recycling Convention and EU regulations.
