eCap inks H2 propulsion deals

eCap Marine will deliver hydrogen propulsion systems for two 85m bulk carriers ordered by Møre Sjø and two short-sea container vessels under construction for Samskip.

“These projects are a significant milestone for eCap Marine and the maritime energy transition,” said Lars Ravens, managing director at eCap Marine.

“Our team has worked with engineering enthusiasm to develop scalable hydrogen technology. Our integrated hydrogen systems are now at the core of two groundbreaking vessels.”

The Samskip SeaShuttles, being built at Cochin Shipyard in India, will be the world’s first hydrogen-powered short-sea container vessels. Each ship will be equipped with a 3.2 MW PEM fuel cell system and marine-approved components, integrated into a containerised system on the aft deck. Delivery is expected in 2027.

Meanwhile, Møre Sjø’s hydrogen-powered bulk carriers, scheduled for completion the same year at Türkiye’s Gelibolu Shipyard, will feature 1.7 MW PEM fuel cells and over 2 tonnes of compressed hydrogen storage. eCap will also supply the vessels’ bunkering systems and power management interfaces.

eCap says it is positioning itself as a pioneer in hydrogen marine propulsion. “We thank both Møre Sjø and Samskip for entrusting us with these emission-free marine propulsion lighthouse projects,” added Ravens.
