Elcome secures major retrofit deal

The agreement is one of Elcome’s most extensive retrofit programmes to date, and involves replacing outdated Alfa Laval Mission/ALTS boiler control systems, originally installed in 2012 with UNISAB II controllers, with Elcome’s modern ELSYS PLC-based systems.

The upgrades include new human-machine interfaces, SCADA integration and a burner management system, along with secure remote connectivity for real-time diagnostics and support.

“We are pleased to have finalised this new agreement which will provide the owner – a long-standing customer for Elcome, and one of the region’s leading ship operators – with more reliable, efficient boiler operations fleet wide,” said Jimmy Grewal, Elcome’s managing director.

“By integrating remote connectivity, we have ensured these vessels will benefit from faster support, reduced downtime and smarter energy management.”

Two ships have already been retrofitted, one in Jebel Ali and another while underway, without impacting charter commitments. Each installation takes just five to seven days and the systems have passed factory acceptance testing and received approval from Lloyd’s Register.

“The Elcome upgrade demonstrates the value of combining our installation and commissioning expertise with our advanced digital-based technologies,” explained Pramod Nair, senior manager at Elcome’s Automation division.

“Owners are increasingly looking for solutions that not only resolve technical challenges but also prepare their fleets for a more connected and data-driven future.”

Early data reportedly shows improved performance, fewer alarms and greater efficiency, confirming the value of the upgrade. Crew training and one year of complimentary remote diagnostics are also included.
