Everllence earns BV smart ship certification

The certification confirms compliance with BV’s SMART(MH3) additional class notation, a designation for vessels equipped with advanced digital technologies that enhance operational efficiency, safety, maintenance strategies and decision-making.

The approval covers approximately 80% of the verification, validation and documentation required for SMART(MH3), leaving only vessel-specific elements for shipowners. It applies to two newbuilds constructed for Wah Kwong Maritime Transport, whose partnership helped drive the initiative.

“This approval reflects the growing role of class-recognised digital solutions in strengthening vessel reliability and operational performance,” said Alex Gregg-Smith, president of Marine & Offshore at BV.

“Everllence’s certification demonstrates how remote monitoring and smart systems can be effectively incorporated into Bureau Veritas’ SMART(MH3) framework.”

The milestone underscores a broader trend among classification societies, which are increasingly recognising digital and autonomous technologies. ABB, for example, has achieved approvals for its Ability Marine & Ports platform, while Kongsberg Digital has received certification from DNV for its Vessel Insight cloud-based monitoring system. Wärtsilä and ClassNK have also secured approvals for predictive maintenance and digital ship systems, helping owners streamline compliance and efficiency.
