The company has joined the Green Maritime Methanol consortium, working together with other companies to promote the use of green methanol as a sustainable, easily stored, near-zero-emissions fuel of the future.

Caterpillar says it recognises the value of being a member of the GMM to further the understanding of the technical and regulatory challenges of methanol as a marine fuel while demonstrating viability with operators in commercial practice.

“As the pathways to reducing net greenhouse gases from the maritime industry have become more clear, methanol has shown it can play an important role in that future,” said Derrick York, Caterpillar Marine managing director.
