HHI and BV develop roll prevention system

The initiative comes as the maritime industry faces growing challenges linked to increasingly complex logistics operations, changing weather patterns and the need to safeguard containerised cargo.

Under the agreement, HHI’s real-time onboard guidance system will be evaluated against Bureau Veritas classification requirements and relevant international regulations. The project will assess the system’s ability to monitor a vessel’s dynamic stability in real time and provide guidance to crews to reduce the risk of dangerous rolling motions.

Hong-Ryeul Ryu, senior executive vice president at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, said the project would provide practical benefits for shipowners and operators.

“By working together with Bureau Veritas on this joint development project, HHI’s Real-Time Onboard Guidance System will provide shipowners with practical solutions to prevent excessive rolling and protect their cargo,” he said.

“This collaboration highlights HHI’s capability to deliver highly reliable vessels, helping ensure that our container ships operate with the highest standards of safety even in severe weather conditions.”

Bureau Veritas said the project demonstrates the value of combining advanced shipbuilding expertise with classification and verification capabilities.
