Homogeniser system shows promise

Sunergon is powered by a 1,440kW four-stroke engine. With the use of the homogeniser-based IPCO fuel treatment system, the company expected a fuel saving of 1,25% to be achieved and a sludge reduction of up to 80%. The Sunergon uses the system based on a benefit sharing agreement, and the results of the first three-weeks of usewere recently announced.

The system uses principles of cavitation and ultrasonic wave technology to homogenise the fuel, leading to improved combustion. IPCO Power’s benefit sharing concept licenses the system to users, in return for 50% of the resulting savings benefit.

Shipowner E. Trommel of the Sunergon reported: “We as owners of Sunergon have used the benefit sharing programme from IPCO Power to place two fuel improvement devices onboard. Our motives to work with IPCO Power were mainly economic and environmental, for example, reduction of fuel can be a substantial saving with current oil price and to contribute to the environment with a reduction in emissions. Also the benefit sharing principle allowed us to take advantage of the saving features of the system without major investments. The two units are compact and therefore easy to install without many modifications in our fuel system. The Sunergon has been sailing with the system for three weeks and we expect together with the fuel efficiency a lower wear and tear on our main engine and fuel system.”
