IINO Lines to retrofit Norsepower Rotor Sail on bulker
The retrofit will take place in Q3 2024. Yodohime is set to be retrofitted with one large-sized Norsepower Rotor Sail unit that is 24m in height and 4m in diameter.
By combining the Rotor Sail with a navigation optimisation system, the installation is expected to achieve average fuel and carbon emission reductions of 6-10% for the ship.
The Norsepower Rotor Sail is an innovative modernised version of the Flettner rotor. It uses the vessel’s electric power to rotate the cylinder-shaped rotors on the deck which generate powerful thrust from the wind.
This is the second vessel for IINO LINES following a Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC) to be equipped with the Norsepower Rotor Sail.
J-POWER has also previously installed a wind propulsion auxiliary system on a dedicated coal carrier.
