K Line trials flying wing system

Seawing assists propulsion by harnessing the power of the wind. The flying wing system is mounted on the bow of the vessel and is unfolded via simple operation from the bridge under certain wind conditions.

As part of the installation ‘K’ Line will assess Seawing’s performance for two years under the close supervision of Airseas to confirm whether the system contributes to the reduction of the environmental load associated with the ship’s operation. It is hoped that savings of 20%, equivalent to 5,200 tonnes of CO2 annually, can be made.

In addition, ‘K’ Line and Airseas will cooperate on further improvements to Seawing by using the operation and performance data obtained from the performance management system, Kawasaki Integrated Maritime Solutions, which is also installed in ‘K’ Line’s fleet vessels.
