Kleven delivers largest ever vessel

The 145m subsea construction vessel was designed by Salt Ship Design. Equipped with two offshore cranes, one 400 tonne and one 100 tonne, the vessel can handle heavy underwater installations.

Viking Neptun also has a carousel with a capacity for 4,400 tonnes of flexible pipes, a 2,600m² cargo deck and accommodation for 150. It holds ice class ICE 1B, enabling it to operate in arctic waters.

The vessel’s main propulsion is provided by 2 x 6,000kW Wärtsilä engines, Wärtsilä 6 x 3,170 ekW and 2 x 1,405 ekW main generator sets, and a retractable thruster, a tunnel thruster forward and tunnel thruster aft by Brunvoll.

Eidesvik has drawn a long-term loan facility of $124m with Nordea and Eksportkreditt Norway/GIEK to finance the vessel.

The naming ceremony will take place in Stavanger on 28 February, after which the vessel will start working for Technip

Although this is the largest ever vessel delivered by Kleven, the company told The Motorship it’s not the last. In February next year, it’s delivering another large OCV – even a few metres longer than Viking Neptun. The contract with Norway’s Østensjø Rederi is for a 150m long vessel, valued at NOK1.4bn (US$186.1m), making it the largest contract ever for Kleven.

The vessel of SALT 304 OCV design will be equipped with a 400 tonne crane, a 70 tonne crane, Vertical Lay System and carousel.
