Kongsberg bolsters US subsea defence

Final testing of the AUV – which promises to enhance the navy’s undersea capabilities – took place earlier this year in Norway.

Kongsberg’s HUGIN Superior has been in active service for both commercial and military customers since 2019.

The AUV features full ocean depth capability, over 70 hours of endurance and a navigational accuracy of <0.04% of distance travelled, and multiple mapping and imaging sensors.

Its versatile design makes it ideal for subsea and seabed warfare, mine countermeasures and the inspection of critical undersea infrastructure.

Kongsberg has an extensive history of developing AUVs, producing the first HUGIN dive in 1993 and celebrating the record-breaking multi-week mission of HUGIN Endurance last summer.
