Low emissions CTV launches

Named Seacat Columbia, the vessel was officially handed over by BAR Technologies chair, Martin Whitmarsh at the launch on The Camber, during which guests were given an in-depth tour.

The BARTech 30 was designed by the Formula 1 and America’s Cup expert to address the two most pressing challenges of the offshore wind industry, namely vessel efficiency and comfort. “Alongside our pioneering wind propulsion technology for the shipping industry, our latest developments in crew transfer vessel design, demonstrated by the BARTech 30, are helping to significantly mitigate the ‘last mile’ of carbon emissions in offshore wind development and construction,” said Martin Whitmarsh.

With its 30 metre ProA design, and active foiling systems, the BARTech 30 is able to minimise vessel motion and fuel burn, leading to a reported average increase in stability across all sea states of up to 70% and a reduction in total emissions of 30%, making the vessel one of the first low emission vehicles serving the UK’s growing fleet of offshore wind farms.

The vessel is also able to operate in more challenging conditions than the current catamaran designs, says BARTechnologies, increasing flexibility for the servicing of offshore wind turbines.

BARTechnologies has also received an order for two BARTech 30s from CTV operator, High Speed Transfers.
