Meyer Turku delivers Mein Schiff 2 to TUI Cruises

With a length of 315 meters and a width of 36 meters, New Mein Schiff 2 will be able to accommodate 3,132 passengers and 1,092 crew onboard.

“The commissioning of our new Mein Schiff 2 marks the successful end of our first expansion phase. Our sixth newbuild by Meyer Turku not only impresses with its design, its inner values are equally convincing: With the use of modern technologies we are setting standards for environmental protection,” said TUI Cruises CEO Wybcke Meier.

The design of the vessel was originally based on TUI Cruise’s Mein Schiff 6. The delivery was scheduled for Kiel to avoid the risk of sea ice near Turku damaging the silicone layer of anti-fouling protection on the hull.

The vessel will benefit from connectivity provided by Panasonic subsidiary ITC Global under a four-year contract, via 2.4m multi-band antenna systems. A similar system was installed on sistership Mein Schiff 1 earlier in 2018.

Meyer Turku noted it plans to invest of €200 million in the shipyard, doubling its production capacity over the coming five years. The family-owned shipyard is expected to develop a data-led assembly model to manage an expected rise in annual throughput from 150,000 GT to 400,000 GT over the period.
