Meyer Turku invests in steel storage and treatment

The company had previously revealed plans to invest in a new gantry crane and a modernised cabin factory. The new steel facility will increase the steel pre-treatment capacity of Meyer Turku, improve dimensional accuracy and increase productivity.

The production of the new facility will start in the autumn of 2016. Meyer Turku plans to start negotiations with unions about how the new plant will change work at the yard, but noted that the investment will not cause any reduction in employee numbers.

Jan Meyer, CEO of Meyer Turku, said: “This latest investment gives an indication how large the replacement need for old facilities at Turku yard is. With this investment we are working on productivity improvements and dimensional accuracy improvements to boost the subsequent process steps. For us as the Meyer family it is a concrete commitment to a long-term shipbuilding future in Turku.”
