New hybrid wellboat order to set new environmental standards
The wellboat was ordered by Norwegian Frøy AS in December 2020, and will be chartered to Cermaq for five years after delivery. The boat is scheduled for delivery in Q2 2023.
Designed by HAV Design, the vessel represents an evolution of the Havtrans series. The vessel features four cylindrical tanks with a combined tank capacity of around 6,000 cubic metres, which is nearly twice the capacity of previous vessels.
The new design also has more deck space that can, for example, be used for delousing equipment. The Hydrolicer system will be able to treat 600 tons of salmon per hour, while the freshwater production system will have a daily production capacity of 6,000 tons of fresh water.
The vessel will set new environmental standards in terms of greenhouse gas emissions per kilogram of salmon. In addition to increasing the vessel’s capacity, the vessel also features an energy-efficient hull.
The vessel will feature a battery pack, as well as a shorepower connection. Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) will provide the vessel’s energy production and propulsion system.
Other efficiency technologies include the waste heat recovery solutions after the generators.
In all, the vessel is expected to achieve a 15 percent reduction in fuel consumption, according to Oddleif Wigdahl, director of wellboat operations at Frøy AS.
