New multigas carrier design launched
The concept combines the design of Deltamarin’s B.Delta and the new-generation patented cylindrical gas tanks by Brevik Technology.
“Up until now gas carriers have been complex and expensive to design and construct. This is not the case anymore, a unique independent gas carrying method has been created to challenge the traditional way of building the vessel and the tanks as one entity,” said Mika Laurilehto, Deltamarin’s managing director.
By combining the readily available B.Delta design and spate cylindrical gas containment tanks, Deltamarin say the new carrier design is easy to build and cost-effective.
The cylindrical tank allows it to expand in all directions without putting stress on the vessel hull and the independent containment system results in better utilisation of the ships’ design.
“This is where the ship owner can get significant benefits by choosing a readily available and highly efficient B.Delta hull design. As a bulk carrier, the vessel is easier and cheaper to build compared to a traditional gas carrier and there may be many new potential yards capable of constructing such a vessel,” added Mr Lauriletho.
The company’s plan for the future is that medium and larger scale vessels will also be provided with a similar design and it will also be available for new-builds and retrofit vessels.
