When completed the vessel will measure 90.5m wide and 17.8m wide and according to Kleven will be the largest pelagic fishing vessel within its segment.

The vessel of SALT 0155 design is being developed in a close cooperation between the ship owner, ship designer, Salt Ship Design, and Kleven.

“We are really pleased that Henning Kjeldsen chooses to build this large, modern and advanced fishing vessel in Norway and at Myklebust verft,” said Ståle Rasmussen, CEO of Kleven.

He added: “Myklebust Verft is celebrating 100 years of operation this year and the yard is very experienced and skilled when it comes to building fishing vessels. This is the fourth fish related newbuild contract we have signed at Myklebust since June. At Kleven we are building vessels for a number of different segments, which is clearly an advantage in today’s challenging situation in the oil industry.”

Mr Rasmussen praised the cooperation between the three parties in the process leading up to the contract being signed.

A number of Norwegian suppliers are also involved in the project, including Brunvoll, Scana Volda, Hareid Elektriske, Karmøy Winch and MMC.

The vessel is due to be delivered to its new owner from Myklebust Verft during the fourth quarter of 2017.

Kleven’s orderbook currently contains 16 vessels at a total value of more than 10bn NOK.
