Norsepower opens first Chinese rotor sail factory

The facility, strategically located near major shipbuilding hubs and shipping routes, underscores Norsepower’s commitment to advancing wind power in maritime transportation.

Increased global demand

Initially capable of producing 50 Rotor Sails annually, the factory will scale up to 100 units by 2027, addressing growing global demand for sustainable shipping solutions. 

China’s prominent role in global shipbuilding made it a natural choice for the factory. The collaboration highlights the synergy between Finland’s maritime expertise and China’s industrial strength.

Norsepower joins a growing number of Finnish companies, including Nokia, Wärtsilä and Rovio, that have expanded their operations in China.

The company intends the factory to be a paragon of combined know-how, featuring a diverse team of skilled engineers, scientists and motivated industry professionals committed to Norsepower’s vision of sustainable shipping.

Norsepower said that the €60 billion wind propulsion market is poised for rapid growth, which the company intends to be in the right position and location to capitalise in on.
