Norwegian hybrid live fish carrier

Designed by Skipskompetanse AS, the vessel was the sixth in the ‘LFC-2020’ series to be delivered to Rostein. Work on Ro Vision began in 2018, when the decision was taken to install a 600kWh battery pack, supplied by Siemens.

The 84.2m-long vessel features a combined tank capacity of around 3,900 cubic metres, and accommodation for 12 crew.

Built by Norwegian shipyard Larsnes Mek. Verksted AS., the Ro Vision is powered by three Yanmar 6EY22ALW diesel generators. The live fish carrier’s generators are equipped with a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system. In common with previous vessels in the series, Ro Vision features a Finnøy Gear & Propeller AS gearbox and propeller.

Jarle Gunnarstein, CEO of shipbuilder Larsnes Mek Verksted, discussed the reasons for the choice of powerplant: “Yanmar engines are easy to install and accessible for maintenance. Moreover, they are economical, have low emissions and a long lifespan, which is often a decisive factor for our customers, such as ship owners and designers.”

The vessel’s final design was the product of close cooperation between owner, shipyard and designers, and has been well received by the industry, winning a Ship of the Year award in Norway.

Chile-based ship owner Naviera Orca ordered a 2,800cbm capacity medium-sized well boat based on a similar design in December 2020.
