Paraffin wax risk to operators

DMA 0.1%, which is within the specifications for ISO 8217, has been forming large amounts of paraffin in the MGO tracks causing problems.

The cloud point for this MGO is 32°C, which is the point at which paraffin formation begins, but the cloud point is not part of the ISO 8217 specification.

Users should consider this when stemming LSMGO in North Europe and to obtain information about both the cloud point and pour point prior to bunkering to prevent problems.

BIMCO said it may be considered necessary to stem DMX grade if trading in the Baltic or anywhere else the sea temperature may dictate. This is because the cloud point is required as part of the DMX specification.
