Ports of Stockholm extends hydrogen plans

The announcement forms part of the hydrogen fuel strategy the port group is undertaking to achieve its environmental target of fossil fuel-free truck operations by 2025.

“Hydrogen will play a crucial role in converting to fossil fuel-free transport, both on land and at sea. This hydrogen fuelling station is part of converting our work vehicles to run on hydrogen and is the first step towards achieving Ports of Stockholm’s goal for our work vehicles to operate fossil fuel-free by 2025,” said Johan Wallén, CCO Ports of Stockholm.

Hydrogen strategy

Ports of Stockholm’s undertaking will include delivery and operation of this vehicle refuelling station, but it will also include a distribution agreement for hydrogen. The agreement is expected to be in place no later than January 2023.

Investment in hydrogen is part of achieving the Ports of Stockholm’s environmental goal of entirely fossil fuel-free operations by 2030. The first hydrogen-fuelled terminal truck is planned to be in operation at Stockholm Norvik Port in 2023.

In June, Ports of Stockholm and CMB.TECH joined forces in a unique hydrogen collaboration at Stockholm Norvik Port.

The investment in hydrogen encompasses port operations but  will also expand service offerings to shipping companies and haulage firms, as well as other customers and collaboration partners.
