Mesab managing director Anders Sjöström explains that: “The industry has focused on manufacturing, not on the difficulties for the shipowner to get the systems fitted onboard”.

Mesab, located in Tumba near Stockholm, focuses on three areas: clean water; clean air; and energy efficiency. It has recently signed an agreement with Alfa Laval to supply turnkey services globally to Alfa Laval customers, including retrofitting the PureBallast treatment system. Services provided to ship owners include engineering, manufacturing, installation, start-up and commissioning.

To help customers in reducing emissions to the air, the company says its offers an extensive product range with solutions available ranging from product supply to financing of turnkey packages. For energy efficiency Mesab says it has an increasing portfolio of solutions to decrease energy consumption, such as: waste heat recovery; the Marorka fuel management systems; electrical efficiency and degassing of cool/hot fluid systems.

As an example of the above, ME Solutions is able to supply ORC (organic Rankine cycle) hot air engines with a high level of efficiency, and able to produce upto 1MW of electricity from pure waste heat.
