RS signs agreement with Nordic Yards Wismar

Russian Register will class two icebreaking rescue vessels being built at Nordic Yards Wismar

The ships are 87.75m length oa and 7MW power, and will be deployed on salvage operations, search and rescue, escort duties, oil spill response; fire fighting and underwater engineering work. The basic design of the vessels, code named MPSV 06, was carried out by the Russian Marine Engineering Bureau and finalised by Nordic Yards.

The vessels are designed to operate in ice thicknesses up to 1.5m, are equipped with a helicopter platform and carry a high-speed salvage workboat able to rescue up to 24 persona, and a Scorpio ROV and two diving systems for carrying out underwater salvage work at depths up to 60m, with additional capability to work down to 300m depth. 26 crew will be carried, with accommodation for up to 12 special personnel and 95 rescued survivors.

The two ships were ordered by the Russian Federal Treasury Institution State Customer Directorate for Sea Transport Development Programmes at the end of 2012, and construction is due to start soon with delivery scheduled for 2015.
