SANMAR TO SUPPLY TRACTOR TUG TO ITALY
The tug is 25 metres long and 12 metres wide, with 70t of bollard pull. The delivery will be the shipbuilder’s sixth delivery of its exclusive Delicay design within 12 months.
The main propulsion for each tug comprises a pair of Caterpillar diesel engines, driving Rolls Royce type US 255 azimuth thrusters.
The deck machinery layout has been developed in collaboration with Sanmar’s long-term winch-building partner, DMT. It comprises two ‘mirror image’ single drum winches, port and starboard located, swinging quick release tow hooks. An extended staple provides perfect alignment to both winches.
The tug also has a full FiFi1 external fire-fighting system driven by a dedicated diesel and to comply with Italian Flag Rules, it is outfitted with a SOLAS crane and a rescue boat on the forward deck.
The stern features Voith StRAke stabilizers, which improve tractor tug directional stability allowing for a reduced size skeg and thereby improving manoeuvrability and fuel efficiency.
