Shell lubricants for Cosco ULCCs
The supplier, which has supplied marine lubricants and services to over 140 Cosco Shipping vessels since 2004, described the order as Cosco’s largest of 2017. Shell’s work with Cosco includes provision of onboard testing for the ship owner’s on-board blending programme as well as oil drain monitoring and customised Shell Rapid Lubricant Analysis reporting. The supplier has also located one of its technical maritime hubs in Shanghai.
Jan Toschka, executive director, Shell Marine, said: “Securing this major contract for ships that play a leading role in delivering Chinese exports on the just-in-time basis required at this scale demonstrates owner preferences for proven lubricant performance, supported by a global logistics network and comprehensive technical services.”
The contract follows an earlier appointment by Orient Overseas Container Line, currently being acquired by Cosco Shipping, to provide marine lubricants and services for the 21,413 teu OOCL Hong Kong – which was the biggest containership in the world when it was delivered earlier this year.
