Steerprop wins propulsion contract for world’s largest cable-laying vessel

This win marks a major milestone for Steerprop, showcasing their ability to deliver customisable solutions for even the most demanding applications. The company will provide a fit-for-purpose propulsion system designed to meet the specific needs of the Fleeming Jenkin, ensuring optimal performance and environmental efficiency for deep-sea cable-laying operations.

Steerprop’s solution prioritises both environmental responsibility and precise maneuverability. The optimised propulsion system will align with the strictest maritime environmental regulations while ensuring the Fleeming Jenkin can navigate effectively in challenging offshore environments.

The propulsion system will comprise a combination of four azimuth thrusters for main propulsion, along with three tunnel thrusters and two retractable thrusters for exceptional maneuverability. An additional full main thruster and a comprehensive spares package are also included in the contract.

This project signifies a successful collaboration between Steerprop, shipbuilder China Merchants Heavy Industry Haimen (CMHI), and owner Jan De Nul Group.
