Tallink awards RMC EUR250m ropax contract

The EUR250m contract was announced on 27 March 2019. The ropax will have a capacity of 2800 passengers, and feature enlarged passenger seating areas and additional passenger cabins compared with Tallink’s existing Megastar ropax.

The propulsion system will feature liquefied natural gas (LNG) engines with the option of integrating a hybrid battery solution. Compared with the Megastar, the vessel’s LNG storage capacity is being increased by 33%. It will also include shore connection equipment. As a result, the new enhanced design will reduce the ferry’s CO2 emissions by 10 percent.

Jyrki Heinimaa, CEO of Rauma Marine Constructions, said: “We are very pleased to have secured this order. The modern and environmentally-friendly vessel supports RMC’s aim to be a leading car and passenger ferry provider. The vessel is set to be delivered to the customer in the beginning of 2022, which means we have work secured at the shipyard for a long time ahead. We are also excited to see Tallink returning to Rauma, where four ferries for Tallink have been built previously.”
