Tekomar helps Hansa lower lube consumption

Cylube is an electronically controlled system that allows engineers to easily set feed rate from the engine control room. The digital interface removes the complexity associated with optimising feed rate depending on engine load.

Peter Mackeprang, managing director, Hansa Shipping said: “We achieved about 20-30% savings. It is too early to make a statement about engine condition, but liner and piston condition seems to be improving as well.”

The system can be easily retrofitted and leaves the engine’s original lubricator system intact. According to Beat Güttinger, co-founder and head of global sales and marketing, Tekomar, this results in a lower cost than other lubricator systems – around 70% lower than other systems, he claimed. It also provides redundancy in case ship operators need to return to the original system.

Used with a MAN B&W 7S70MC-C engine, Tekomar reports that Cylube can save around 100l of cylinder oil a day from installation, with a further 100l daily saving possible through stepped reductions. The payback period is less than a year.

Installation can take place four to six weeks after the order is placed, takes no more than three days and can be carried out during normal operation with no off-hire time.

Tekomar has completed more than 80 installations of Cylube for a range of clients including Hyundai Merchant Marine, Polaris, Gearbulk and Torm.
