TMC wins HHI LNG carrier deal

Each of the four carriers – currently being built for NYK Line – will be kitted out with HHI’s Hi-ALS system, complemented by the TMC compressors.

Air lubrication reduces drag by distributing air bubbles across the ship’s hull, reducing fuel consumption in an environmentally friendly way.

“Our compressors will essentially provide the bubbles that enable such cost-efficient sailing operations,” said Hans Petter Tanum, TMC’s director of sales and business development.

“We believe this ALS solution is a good fit for NYK Group’s ‘Sail Green, Drive Transformations 2026 – A Passion for Planetary Wellbeing’, which promotes growth strategies with ESG at the core.”

TMC’s compressors use frequency-controlled technology which means the speed of the motor adjusts to produce the exact air volume necessary to meet consumption, reducing power need even further.

The four LNG carriers will have a cargo tank capacity of 174,000 cubic metres, a length of 289.9 metres and width of 46.1 metres. They are scheduled for delivery in 2027 and will be chartered by German energy company, EnBW.

TMC’s compressors range from 50kW to 400kW capacity. The company also offers the associated ALS control system.
