TSUNEISHI BOOKS FIRST TESS66 AEROLINE ULTRAMAX ORDER

The order for 2 x 66,000 dwt Ultramax vessels was placed by Japan-based shipowner Orix Corporation in July. The vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2023. ORIX owns 25 vessels, mainly bulk carriers, and provides them to blue chip companies such as grain trading houses and power companies worldwide.

Tsuneishi Shipbuilding noted that the TESS66 AEROLINE design would be compliant with Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase 3 criteria while operating on conventional fuel oil. The EEDI Phase 3 standard will become mandatory for bulker newbuilds from 2025. The shipbuilder previously noted that a Phase 3 rating has been applied to a number of its designs for serial production.

The vessel features an optimised hull form, which reduces wind resistance, applied at the bow and accommodation house. The application of similar technologies improved fuel consumption by approximately 12% in the 63,000 dwt TESS64 AEROLINE series design.

The TESS66 AEROLINE also features a modern electronically-controlled engine, and Tsuneishi-developed TOP-GR and MT-FAST energy-saving propeller and hull fittings plus SOx scrubber technology.
