Waigaoqiao begins second FPSO for SBM Offshore
The construction of the second FPSO hull also marks the development of batch production of floating production and storage vessel (FPSO) hulls by Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding.
The SBM Offshore Fast4Ward design concept relied on standardised specifications streamlining production and lowering the cost of producing FPSOs. The Fast4Ward project also includes the construction of several standardized topsides modules.
The FPSO is around 330 metres long, with a 60-metre beam, and a 33-metre draught. With an oil storage capacity of around 2 million barrels of crude oil, the vessel will have one of the largest oil storage capacities in the world once completed.
The FPSO is designed to produce 220,000 barrels of oil per day. The hull design has received Basic Design Approval from ABS and Bureau Veritas.
