The contract calls for deliveries between June 2025 and October 2026, and entails a version of the Sealion CV1250 class of boxship developed by Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute (SDARI) and equipped with a two-stroke MAN B&W ME-LGIM engine capable of operating on methanol as well as conventional fuels.

The order will lift the container operator’s dual-fuel orderbook to 14, following the preceding order for eight 1,170 teu container vessels at Ningbo Xinle Shipbuilding Group Co. and New Dayang Shipbuilding Co. in 2021.

The new vessels will be operated by X-Press Feeders. The vessels will be of Ice Class rated, and the ship operator envisages that the vessels will be deployed initially in X-Press Feeders’ established European network.

“X-Press Feeders is excited to be expanding our fleet of dual-fuel vessels with these newbuilds. To achieve our goal of reaching net-zero emission by 2050, we must take concrete steps today. This order of 6 dual-fuel methanol vessels is proof of our commitment to not only talk about carbon neutrality goals but invest and take risks to achieve them. X-Press Feeders will continue to look at ways to further invest resources to reduce emissions through more efficient operations and promoting sustainable practices throughout our network,” said X-Press Feeders ceo, Shmuel Yoskovitz.
