Privacy Policy
How we collect, use and protect your personal information.
Last updated: August 2026
This policy explains how Motorship collects and uses personal information when you visit this website, register an account, take out a subscription, receive our newsletters or appear in our Buyers Guide.
[Publisher's registered company name, registered address and company number to be inserted here, together with the ICO registration number and, if one is appointed, the Data Protection Officer's contact details.]
The information we collect
We collect the following, depending on how you use the site:
- Account details. When you register we collect your name, email address, organisation, country and job title, and the areas of the industry you tell us you work in. Your email address is your username.
- Subscription and payment details. If you subscribe we record what you bought and when it renews. Card details are handled by Stripe and are never stored on our systems.
- Newsletter preferences. Which of our newsletters you have chosen to receive, and changes you make to those choices.
- Buyers Guide listings and enquiries. If you submit a company listing, or send an enquiry to a listed company, we process the contact details and message you provide.
- Usage information. Pages you view, and information your browser sends such as your IP address, device and referring page.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To provide your account and subscription — necessary to perform our contract with you.
- To send the newsletters you have asked for — with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- To pass Buyers Guide enquiries to the company you contacted — necessary to provide the service you asked us for. Your message and contact details are sent to that company, who becomes responsible for how they use them.
- To improve the site and understand what our readers value — our legitimate interest in running a publication people want to read.
- To sell and deliver advertising — see the section on advertising below. [Confirm the lawful basis relied on for advertising, and align with the consent management platform's configuration.]
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it with the service providers who help us run the publication:
- Workbooks — our customer relationship management system, which holds your contact record, subscription history and newsletter preferences.
- Stripe — payment processing for subscriptions.
- Campaign Monitor — newsletter delivery.
- Google Ad Manager — advertising delivery and measurement.
- Postmark — transactional email such as password resets.
- Companies you have chosen to send a Buyers Guide enquiry to.
[Confirm this list is complete and current, and that a data processing agreement is in place with each processor. Add any analytics, hosting, backup or support providers not listed.]
International transfers
[Some of the providers above process data outside the UK. Record the transfer mechanism relied on — UK adequacy regulations, the International Data Transfer Agreement, or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.]
How long we keep it
[Set retention periods: how long an inactive account is kept, how long subscription and billing records are retained for accounting purposes, how long Buyers Guide enquiries are held, and when marketing consent is refreshed.]
Your rights
You have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
You can review and change most of your details yourself from your account, and change your newsletter preferences from the Newsletters section of your account or from the link in any newsletter we send.
To make any other request, contact us using the details at the end of this page. If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies and advertising
We and our advertising partners set cookies and similar technologies. Our Cookie Policy explains what they do and how to control them.
