EU funding for composite repair project

The two-year project began in early March and will help as2con to demonstrate the quality of its COMPA repair technology, which the company claims can offer a faster, cheaper and safer alternative to traditional cutting and welding of steel parts. The technology, which deploys carbon fibre reinforced plastic, will be verified through laboratory and onboard tests, before certification is sought from major maritime classification societies and the technology is ultimately licensed.

COMPA technology is said to minimise vessel downtime and increase vessel safety by providing a fast and durable repair and eliminating the use of flame. It is applicable to geometrically complex structures and locations which are difficult to reach.

As2con was among the 6% of applicants, and the first Croatian company, to receive funder under the EU’s Horizon 2020 SME Instrument Phase 2 programme. The company was founded in 2006 for research, development and application of innovative projects and technologies in the maritime industry.
