First commercial LP-SCR system delivery for J-ENG
The LP-SCR system is being supplied for a 6UEC33LSE-C2 engine and will be installed in a 600 teu container vessel being built by Taizhou Kouan Shipbuilding Co Ltd.
It’s an industry first for J-ENG which said that it has been developing this technology since 2010 using full scale testing using a 2-stroke diesel engine.
System adaptation
J-ENG said that when it comes to adopting its LP-SCR system to a low speed main engine, an increase of exhaust gas temperature might be an issue to be considered.
As a solution to this, J-ENG’s LP-SCR system couples with EGB valve incorporated MET turbocharger to automatically control exhaust gas temperature when the SCR is operated, helping to achieve a higher performance.
Further, LP-SCR can be flexibly arranged in vessel, which makes it relatively easy to install the system in a small-size vessel with limited space.
J-ENG has obtained a General Design Appraisal (GDA) for fundamental design from Lloyd’s Resister and verified its performance during testing.
Following the completion of LP-SCR shop testing and LP-EGR onboard durability testing, J-ENG has established both LP-SCR and LP-EGR technologies.
As an alternative solution to the IMO’s NOx Tier III regulations, J-ENG is now optimising a commercial LP-EGR system following long-term testing.
