Seanergy enlists SKF for condition-based maintenance

Under the condition-based maintenance (CBM) agreement, crew will use a handheld instrument from SKF to collect vibration data from critical auxiliary machinery including ballast pumps, oil purifier pumps, compressors, electric motors, fans, shaft generators, turbochargers and blowers. The data will be uploaded to an online server and detailed reports produced by SKF.

Stelios Psillakis, technical manager, Seanergy Maritime, said: “With the CBM solution from SKF we can identify and rectify problems at an early stage. Moreover, we are able to optimise spare parts and crew tasks. Overall, the service agreement does not need any capex investment, but an opex cost that has proved to be very low compared to the benefits from implementing this solution.”

The reported recommendations generate a work order in the maintenance management system. Alongside the monthly and semi-annual reports, a cloud dashboard will present live machine condition at any time from any point. SKF claims that even a non-trained user can understand the results of vibration data measurements and locate the source of machinery faults.

The monthly and half-yearly vibration analysis reports will provide documentation of the CBM programme, according to class requirements. Seanergy is aiming to secure class approval to extend overhaul intervals in line with manufacturer recommendations. The project is expected to maximise availability of machinery and provide an early indication of potential faults, thus reducing maintenance costs.
