Wärtsilä acquires Burriel Navarro

Underwater work

Burriel Navarro, which has an annual revenue of approximately EUR1.3m and operates in underwater services in the main ports of Spain, will be part of Wärtsilä subsidary Trident. Founded in 1969, Burriel Navarro specialises in a range of underwater work, including inspection, repair and hull cleaning.

“The acquisition supports us in our goals of environmental responsibility by providing us with better access to local ports,” said Tamara De Gruyter, vice president of North Europe at Wärtsilä Services. “The agreement also brings us great opportunities to provide more value adding services and shorter response times for our customers.”

Multi-development opportunities

Fernando Burriel, managing director at Burriel Navarro, commented: “The agreement brings mutual benefits for us and Wärtsilä, and we are excited about paving new ground in underwater services together.”

As well as strengthening Wärtsilä’s competence in the underwater services market, the acquisition is also expected to help Wärtsilä develop its propulsion-related services and support its purpose of enabling sustainable societies with smart technology.

The acquisition additionally complements the acquisition of Trident in early 2018, bringing opportunities to utilise Trident’s eco-friendly hull cleaning equipment on a wider geographical scale.
