Global Maritime Forum calls for industry-wide collaboration
The call was signed by more than 50 industry leaders from across the global maritime industry, including a number of high-profile tanker operators. The forum counts influential market participants such as A.P. Moller-Maersk, Cargill, Lloyd’s Register, MISC and Trafigura among its partners.
The forum also identified two concrete targets. Firstly, the forum urged for it to be commercially viable, ten years from now, to order net zero emission deep-sea vessels for delivery in 2030.
Secondly, the forum also proposed financial institutions include climate alignment factors into lending decisions to support and incentivise shipping’s transition to a low carbon future.
Other areas of discussion included the possibility of adopting emerging digital technologies and new digital business models as a way of encouraging a more collaborative approach to collecting and sharing trusted data within the industry.
Maritime safety, talent retention, regulation and innovation, and improved transparency in ship recycling were other issues addressed.
