Consortium created to promote digitalisation

The Maritime Connectivity Platform Consortium (MCC) was convened with a signature ceremony during the ‘e-navigation underway international 2019′ conference held on board DFDS Seaways’ cruise-ferry, Pearl Seaways, during a round trip from Copenhagen to Oslo.

The consortium’s aim is to promote the Maritime Connectivity Platform (MCP) enabling efficient, secure and seamless electronic information exchange within the maritime industry. MCP is an open source, vendor-neutral technology and will initially focus on International Maritime Organisation goals before supporting digitalisation across the entire maritime domain.

The MCP has evolved over a number of years with a significant push in 2015 when three large projects, two EU and one funded by the Korean government, collaborated on the common use and further development of the technology.

The initial consortium has been established by the following non-commercial operations: OFFIS in Germany, KRIOS in the Republic of Korea, RISE in Sweden, the University of Copenhagen in Denmark and the General Lighthouse Authorities of UK and Ireland. The Danish Maritime Authority, Swedish Maritime Administration and the Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea are joining as governmental observers.
