MHI stabilises polar cruise ships

The 157-passenger vessels will be used for cruises from Europe to both poles, depending on the season. The two fin stabilisers will reduce the roll of the vessels at sea and help provide a comfortable voyage for passengers.

This is the first fin stabiliser order from Europe in 12 years since a 2008 order from Aker Yards. MHI-MME had primarily focused on projects in Japan and other Asian countries, but over the past few years has improved production capacity and worked to expand its sales channels to Europe and other regions.

With the global increase in the demand for cruise tours, there has been an increase in the building of cruise ships and RoPax. MHI-MME intends to use this order as a springboard to proactive sales negotiations for RoPax, RoRo and other vessels not only in Japan and Asia but also Europe.

The fin stabilisers are scheduled for delivery to Helsinki Shipyard by the first half of 2021.
