Wärtsilä restructures Marine Business into three standalone units

The group’s engine and propulsion solutions will be consolidated in a Marine Power division, while a new Marine Voyage division will encompass the group’s navigation, simulation and training solution, fleet operation solutions and ship traffic control solutions.

The third division, Marine Systems, will consist of gas solutions, exhaust treatment, marine electrical systems, as well as seals and bearings. Each business will have lifecycle responsibility for its offerings. This is expected to allow greater focus on the varying needs of customers in different segments.

The existing Energy Business will not be affected by the organisational changes.

Wärtsilä will introduce the structural changes with effect from Q2 2020. “Wärtsilä is committed to leading the way towards a more sustainable maritime future. The restructure builds on the preceding restructure, which saw Wärtsilä Marine Business and Wärtsilä Energy Business gain lifecycle responsibility for equipment sales and service offerings for their respective markets from the beginning of 2019.

Wärtsilä has reoriented its business around its Smart Marine Ecosystem vision, which places data-led services and an ecosystem approach at the heart of the company’s strategy. In 2019, the group launched a number of new navigation solutions, hybrid solutions, and optimisation solutions, including its Fleet Operations Solution, along with the first commercially available auto-docking solution.
