FIRST ORDER FOR J-ENG’S UEC33LSH-C2

The order has been received by Chinese licensee, Zhejiang Yungpu Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd (Yungpu). Yungpu had also received the first order for a UEC42LSH engine for a Chinese licensee. The 6-cylinder Eco D3 version of the engine has been specified for a Chinese coastal chemical tanker.

When J-ENG announced the launch of the UEC33LSH-C2 engine in September 2020, the company noted that it was being launched to meet LPG carrier requirements, as well as Handysize bulk carriers, small-sized chemical tankers and specialist asphalt and cement carriers.

The new engine included an ultrawide tuning concept. J-ENG noted that the UEC33LSH-C2’s fuel consumption is superior to other similar class electronically-controlled engines even applying mechanically-control systems. At the launch, J-ENG noted that the UEC33LSH-C2 is expected to achieve a fuel consumption rate of 172 g/kWh at maximum rating.

As of mid April 2021, the new orders have lifted the number of J-ENG engines ordered by Chinese shipyards from J-ENG itself and its Japanese and Chinese licensees to around 100. Chinese licensees report that the UEC33LSH and UEC42LSH engines are the subject of further commercial enquiries.

While J-ENG has been focused on developing the market share of its UE engines in the Chinese market for many years, the orders for Chinese coastal vessels is relevant, as the Chinese coastal market is expected to see strong replacement demand.
