BMT Belgium founder and MD retires
He has named Bruno Storms, who has been with the organisation for almost 20 years, as his successor, effective from 1 July 2021.
Carlos Maenhout founded Techmar International along with his wife in 1991, selling it to BMT Group in 2005. With qualifications in naval architecture and marine engineering and maritime sciences his consultancy career has spanned more than four decades.
With a wide variety of roles since 1981 in ship repair years, a classification society and a shipping company, Carlos has made a name for himself as both naval architect and marine surveyor since 1990. Under his command the Belgium office has delivered more than 20,000 assignments to date.
Carlos will continue to conduct adhoc investigations on behalf of the Belgian Courts and will continue to work as an arbitrator regarding ship design, ship stability and newbuilding quality for the International Chamber of Commerce, Arbitral Tribunals of Brussels, Paris and Luxemburg, and the Netherlands Arbitration Institute.
