Ahti Pool offers shipowners a streamlined and cost-efficient method to meet the requirements of the FuelEU Maritime regulation. Through collective participation, pool members share the compliance burden, benefiting from economies of scale.

The punitive measures from FuelEU Maritime begin in January next year and is expected to drive significant demand for lower-emission energy products. Neste’s fleet, comprising raw material and end product tankers as well as dual-fuel LNG and methanol vessels, is central to the company’s European and global transport operations.

Sander Wilgenhof, head of shipping at Neste, highlighted the impact of the regulation: “FuelEU Maritime is the first framework addressing the ‘well to wake’ greenhouse gas intensity of our vessels, introducing a new level of compliance complexity. Partnering with Ahti provides a cost-effective solution for meeting our obligations while offering an opportunity to generate additional revenue by selling the positive compliance balance from our ultra-low-carbon vessels.”

Risto Kariranta, CEO of Ahti Pool, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration: “We are thrilled to welcome Neste’s fleet. Partnering with a global leader in renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel will not only support Neste in meeting its compliance goals but also create additional value from surplus FuelEU Maritime compliance.”
