A renewables powered polar expedition vessel
The keel-laying ceremony late last year in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, represents a groundbreaking step in green shipbuilding and in particular renewable energy power for power and propulsion.

Green shipbuilding
Powered predominantly by renewable energy, the 70-metre vessel will achieve a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional vessels.
The groundbreaking vessel will rely primarily on renewable energy sources for propulsion, resulting in a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional ships. It will harness 90% of its power from cutting-edge wind sails mounted with advanced solar panels.
With its wind sails and advanced solar panels, the 70-metre vessel is designed to set a new standard for environmentally responsible cruising, particularly in the fragile Arctic ecosystem.

Attendees at the keel-laying ceremony included Sophie Galvagnon, CEO and Pierrick Delaunay, technical director of Selar, the vessel’s French owner, along with representatives from Chantier Naval de l’Ocean Indien (CNOI), Goltens’ shipbuilding partner and Bureau Veritas (BV).
