Ulstein wins major conversion deal

Managing director Runar Muren at Ulstein Design & Solutions, states that this milestone not only marks a significant achievement for the company, it also highlights Ulstein’s expanding role and expertise in aftermarket services to the maritime sector.

The Orient Adventurer is an ULSTEIN SX121 design, originally delivered in 2014 as an offshore construction vessel from Ulstein Verft. Initially equipped with a Huisman VLS tower for vertical laying systems, the vessel was recently upgraded with additional cable-laying equipment to tap into the growing offshore renewables sector.

“Ulstein knows the vessel well, and it’s an insurance to know that everything will work when doing a conversion,” commented Grant Hermanus, technical manager at DFO.

“Choosing Ulstein Design & Solutions makes planning and installation a lot easier. It’ll shorten the schedule.”

Under this latest conversion, the VLS tower will be relocated to new rooms on the main deck and the A and B decks. The vessel will also be fitted with a foundation for a walk-to-work gangway system and a 3,000-tonne cable carousel from Huisman. The conversion is set to be completed in 2025, with the vessel scheduled to begin operations in 2026.

In addition to this project, Ulstein Design & Solutions is also overseeing the engineering of a new containerised accommodation unit for the Orient Adventurer.
