MAN’s most powerful two-stroke methanol engine

The 82,440 kW MAN B&W 12G95ME-C10.5-LGIM methanol engine, currently under construction by Chinese licensee CMD, is the first of 12 dual-fuel units destined for 24,000 teu container ships being built for OOCL and COSCO Shipping Lines.

“This latest, remarkable milestone – the world’s most powerful methanol engine – is just the latest fulfilment of that.”

Gas recirculation

The methanol engines, which also run on conventional fuels, incorporate MAN’s EGRTC emissions system — which MAN said is the largest exhaust gas recirculation setup ever installed on a two-stroke engine.

Christian Ludwig, head of two-stroke sales and promotion, added: “We have won over 230 ME-LGIM references, with over 600,000 operational hours on methanol. It’s proven, mature technology that enables the industry’s carbon transition.”

MAN’s ME-LGIM dual-fuel methanol engine is based on its widely adopted ME-series platform, with over 8,500 units in service.

When operating on green methanol, the engine offers carbon-neutral propulsion for large merchant-marine vessels.
